GE covers a wider range than almost any other name on an appliance. It runs from builder-grade units put in by the hundred in new subdivisions all the way up to Profile, Cafe and Monogram, and the line matters more than the name. A builder-grade GE and a Monogram built-in share a logo and not much else. The build quality is different, the parts cost is different, and the point where a repair stops making sense is completely different. So the first thing we do is read the model number. Going by the logo alone is how people get a quote that makes no sense for the machine they own. 1. Know which GE line you've got

   Builder-grade, Profile, Cafe and Monogram share a logo and not much else. They're built differently, the parts cost differently, and the point where a repair stops making sense is completely different. The model number tells us which one you've got, and that changes what we'll tell you.

2. A top-loader that won't spin is often the lid switch

   The washer won't spin unless it can tell the lid is shut. A bad switch looks like a spin problem, and it's one of the cheapest parts on the machine.

3. Test the water valve before replacing the ice maker

   The water inlet valve, where water comes into the fridge, fails often enough on GE fridges that it's worth checking first. It costs a lot less than the ice maker that usually gets replaced instead.

4. Dirty dishes from a newer dishwasher aren't always the soap

   The newer, quieter models hide a failing circulation pump, so the cleaning gets worse before you hear anything. Check the filter and spray arms. If they're clean, treat it as a real problem, not a loading mistake.

5. Clean the condenser, especially in a garage

   No matter the line, dust and Arizona heat wear out compressors early. Of all the upkeep you can do on a GE fridge here, cleaning the coils pays off the most.

The line decides the math. A builder-grade GE is built to a price and to last around ten years, so a big repair on an older one rarely makes sense. A Profile or Monogram is a whole different machine, and it's worth fixing a lot longer, same as a built-in from any high-end brand. We check the model number before we quote.
