1. Note whether one column is affected or both

   Each Thermador column runs on its own system. One warm while the other holds temperature means the problem is inside that unit, usually the fan, defrost circuit or seal. Both drifting together points to something they share, like a condenser packed with dust or hot air around them. Knowing which one saves a visit.

2. Clean the condenser behind the grille

   In this climate it clogs with dust a lot faster than the manual expects, and both columns slowly warming is very often just that. Vacuum it and give the unit a day before you book anyone.

3. Clean the star burner ports

   The star-shaped burner is what makes these cooktops stand out, and it's also what collects gunk. Clogged ports give an uneven flame that people mistake for a gas supply or regulator problem.

4. Watch the wall oven door hinges

   They carry a heavy door and wear out slowly. A door that doesn't close square lets heat out all the time, and you get uneven baking that looks like an electrical problem when it isn't.

5. Parts are easier to get than the name suggests

   Thermador is on the BSH platform with Bosch, so parts are a lot easier to get than for most luxury brands. If someone told you a Thermador part is weeks away, get a second opinion.

A Thermador doesn't add up like a budget machine. The usual rule: if it's past halfway through its life and the repair costs more than half the price of new, replace it.
