A washer that won't drain is a drain pump nine times out of ten, and what's in the pump is usually a sock, an underwire, or a handful of change. Banging on spin is normally worn suspension rods or shocks. Our hard water is rough on the water valves where the hoses hook on, too. They scale up and slow the fill.

GE washers come as classic top-loaders or as front-load and high-efficiency machines, and what breaks depends on the design, not the name. On top-loaders the lid switch is the most common call we get. The washer won't spin unless it can tell the lid is shut, so a bad switch gives you a washer that fills and drains but never spins. The drive belt and the motor coupling cover most of the rest. Front-loaders break like everybody else's. The drain pump filter catches coins and throws the same drain error as a dead pump. The rubber door seal tears along the bottom and only leaks when the drum spins hard. GE parts are easy to get for both kinds, so most of these get fixed in one visit instead of a second trip after we order parts.
