No heat on an electric oven is the bake element most of the time, and you can usually see the damage: a blister or a break in the coil. On gas it's the igniter. It weakens before it dies, so the sign is the oven taking longer and longer to light. Running hot or cold is normally the temperature sensor, and that's an easy fix.

KitchenAid wall ovens are built better than regular Whirlpool, and not much goes wrong with them, so they're cheap to keep going. The bake and broil elements fail where you can see it, usually a break or a bright burnt spot on the coil. The temperature sensor is the one to understand, because you can't see it fail. When it drifts, the oven thinks it's at the temperature you set when it isn't. The display looks right, the food comes out wrong, and staring at the panel won't tell you why. Put a separate oven thermometer inside and one bake will tell you. Door hinges are the other one. When a heavy oven door stops closing square, heat leaks out the whole time, and you get uneven baking that people blame on the element. These use Whirlpool parts, so almost all of this gets fixed in one visit.
