What is different about a Maytag dryer
Maytag dryers are built on the Whirlpool platform and break in almost exactly the same ways. That's good news for you on parts and on figuring out what's wrong. When one won't heat, it's the heating element, the thermal fuse or the cycling thermostat. The fuse is a warning sign more than the real problem. It blows because air couldn't get out, so we check the vent line on the same visit instead of waiting for the second fuse. Noises come from the drum rollers, the idler pulley or the belt. All three are cheap, and you'll hear them well before they quit. The only thing that's special about Maytag is the same age question as the rest of the brand. A dryer built before 2006 may need a part that's hard to find now, so we read the model plate before ordering instead of assuming the Whirlpool part fits.

My Maytag dryer won't heat. What's usually wrong?
The heating element, the thermal fuse or the cycling thermostat. If the fuse blew, that's a sign the air isn't getting out, not the real problem, so the vent line has to be cleared too.
Does the age of my Maytag dryer matter for parts?
Yes. Dryers built after 2006 use Whirlpool parts, and those are easy. A really old one may need a part that's hard to find now, so we check the model plate before we order.
Why does it take two cycles to dry a load?
