A washer that won't drain is a drain pump nine times out of ten, and what's in the pump is usually a sock, an underwire, or a handful of change. Banging on spin is normally worn suspension rods or shocks. Our hard water is rough on the water valves where the hoses hook on, too. They scale up and slow the fill.

Same as the fridges, a Kenmore washer is a Whirlpool, LG or Frigidaire, and the model number tells us which. That matters right away. If a Whirlpool-built top-loader fills and drains but never agitates, it's usually the shift actuator (the small motor that switches it between agitate and spin) or the motor coupler. On an LG-built direct-drive washer, the same problem is more likely the rotor position sensor. Those are different parts, different prices and different jobs. A bad lid switch or lid lock is a common call on all of them. None of these washers will spin unless they can tell the lid is shut, so when the switch fails you get a washer that fills and drains but won't spin. Once we know the maker, the repair goes just like it would on that brand, with that brand's parts.
