Kenmore Refrigerator Repair

Most no-cool calls aren't a dead compressor. Nine times out of ten it's the start relay (the little switch that kicks the compressor on), the condenser fan motor, or coils packed solid with dust. Arizona is hard on refrigerators. At 110 to 115 degrees the compressor barely gets a rest, and a unit in the garage is working in heat it was never built for.

On any Kenmore fridge, we start by reading the model number. It tells us who built it, so we know what we're really working on. A 106 at the front means Whirlpool built it, and it acts just like a Whirlpool. Most of those cool both sides from a single evaporator, so a warm fridge side with a cold freezer means an airflow problem, not the compressor. A 795 means LG built it. That brings LG's linear compressor, and a whole different way of tracking down the problem. If one of those runs nonstop with both sides warm, we look at the sealed refrigerant system, which has to be opened with special tools and training. Those two fridges can look almost the same from the front and need completely different repairs. Guess from the Kenmore name and you can end up with the wrong repair quoted. Once we know the maker, the usual Arizona problems apply, and dust-packed condenser coils (the grille of tubes under or behind the fridge) are the most common cause we find.
